The Plan

Informed from my experiences of dealing with the school district, advocating for schools gutted by the budget, fighting for equity and better enrollment practices. Discussions with other families and school staff as well as some directors.

My Promise: I will never pivot on my core values of protecting families and elevating all youth voice.

Find Long-term Superintendent

The consistent budget crisis, families leaving the district, school staff frustration and burn out are all symptoms of a lack of consistent leadership.

I seek to find and hire a leader that will honor this commitment, bring experience and nuanced vision rooted in equity that Seattle families deserve.

Priority: Find a Superintendent candidates committed to a long-term contract. Someone who has experience turning around dysfunctional organizations into high functioning, rooted in systemic equity work.

02

Rebuild Trust

The budget crisis Seattle Schools is suffering from is a symptom of a dysfunctional and undesirable relationship

district, informed by the relationship between SPS and families.

To balance the budget SPS needs to become a desirable district. Attracting families and bringing programs that prepare all children for the world.

This will need to start with establishing trust between families within the district.

Priority:  Anchoring decisions from budget cuts to investments with revenue, informed by families perspective - grounds the work out of the district around those who have to live with the outcomes. Weighing that input with an equity focused evaluation, to minimize devastating impact to those furthest from educational justice.

Empower Youth

Policy that inflates grades does not prepare our kids for the real world. Our kids are failing out of Seattle Promise, instead of being ready and cutting cost - this impact creates a net neutral impact, as kids have to pad their college years in remedial classes.

Trade programs are reporting kids being under educated and not being able to read or comprehend.

With creative partnership with SEA and community involvement we can create a frameworks that encourages youth empowerment.

Priority: Facilitate various community connections to show children various pathways to accomplish their goals. Provide planning tools for youth to plan their own future path to success how they define it.
